Sweet and Sour Meatballs is an easy, home made version of the classic Chinese Restaurant meal. Home made meatballs are browned and smothered in a delicious sauce featuring pineapple and capsicum. Served on a bed of rice or noodles, this dish will become a quick family favourite – give it a go!

RECIPE FACT SHEET

INGREDIENTS IN THIS DISH:

MEATBALLS:

750g of Pork Mince (or any meat you like)
1 Cup of Fresh Breadcrumbs
1 Small Onion (finely chopped)
1 Egg (lightly beaten)

SAUCE:

400g Can of Pineapple Pieces in Juice
2 Tablespoons of Corn Flour (Corn Starch)
1 Tablespoon of Brown Sugar
2 Tablespoons of White Vinegar
1 Tablespoon of Soy Sauce
1 Tablespoon of Tomato Ketchup
1 Teaspoon of Minced Garlic (about 1 clove)
1 Red Capsicum (aka Bell Pepper)
1 Cup of Water

Preparation Time: About 20 minutes
Cooking Time: About 40 minutes

SERVES 4

ALL MEASUREMENTS GIVEN ARE AUSTRALIAN STANDARD METRIC

  • I tried this for dinner tonight and I was dissapointed. The sauce didn't thicken and I felt like it was missing some flavor. It also needed salt for the meatballs.

  • You can leave it out, but it's one of the primary flavors, so the dish will taste totally different without it ;)

  • Heres a easy recipe that i use for swedish meatballs...
    -Meatballs
    - Equals parts of grape jelly & chilli sauce for however much sauce you want for your meatballs.
    -Onepotchef, give it a try and lemme know what u think :)

  • 1 Red Capsicum (aka Bell Pepper)
    Here a Bell Pepper is green red or orange and has no capsicum, rather they are slightly sweet like an apple.
