Could you use breadcrumbs instead of stale bread

It doesn't matter if the soup is condensed or not, as we are not using it to make soup. No need to add extra water etc. Yes, you can use brown rice if you wish πŸ˜‰

Is the soup condensed? I have condensed cream of mushroom, should I just add water and mix it before adding it to the bowl? Also, could I use brown rice?

You can leave the bread out if you like, no need to adjust the cooking time πŸ˜‰

Do i have to put stale bread on top of this dish, and if i decide to leave it out, do i have to adjust the time and temperture of the oven?

If you are melting the butter on the stove, use a low temperature. A high temperature will cause the butter to melt too quickly and burn πŸ˜‰

When I melt my butter it never looks golden like that, more a nasty brown. It doesn't smell so well either.. πŸ™

David, that looks delicious with the exception of the peas. What could I use in place of the peas as I find peas disgusting?

It's a canned soup that should be commonly available in the UK. Basically, it's a creamy mushroom soup. You can use any canned creamy soup if you like πŸ˜‰
