My aunt used to make these cookies for me every Christmas and I loved them so much. She doesn't make them for me anymore, so I'm trying to recreate them. Candy cane cookies truly are magical

this cookie is one of my childhood favorites. My grandma has been making it for 28 years now. What she does instead of adding the peppermint extract, is crushes starlight mints and sprinkles them on top. That way you get the soft sugar cookie taste, and the crunchy mint flavor on top. They are so delicious!

we made those growing up my whole life.. but we sprinkled them with powdered sugar for snow at the end and it gives it a little sweeter taste with the mint.. You NEED to put the mint in it's delicious

I love this recipe, me and my baby sister made big and small candy canes, small angel and gingerbread men ones and we colored a third of the dough green to have more color. I also added more mint extract like a teaspoon and a half and they were delicious and festive. Also, roll the candy cane before shaping it with the hook so the edges won't seem to be so defined. I am definitely going to do this again and you could also do this by hand because I did. I also did not need to refrigerate it. I just put it in the freezer while I clean up which tales like 10 minutes then I shape the dough and it was fun, my baby sister rolled them and dunked them in flour before baking and they look like mochi. The dough started to come to room temperature and I just put them straight in the oven at room temperature and they held their shape really well. I was so impressed, definitely going to do this next year with my hand mixer that I will get on Christmas. I am 12 and my baby sister is 4 so yah, I had no help because this recipe was so easy.
